Windscreen Replacement

Postby Andrew » Fri Nov 24, 2006 8:59 pm

Got a stone chip in my windscreen the other day and am looking at getting it repaired or worst case the whole thing replaced :(

Recieved a quoted from O'Brian Glass today, $308 for a replacemnt windscreen or $98 to repair the chip.

I didnt think the windscreen wer that expensive :?:

Anyone got any other thoughts/repairers :?:

Had mine replaced for around $140... and that included new rubber surround!

Can't find the receipt to tell you who that was with as I can't remember. I did ring a few places.

Shop around. Goes to show what a rip off O'Brian is. I suppose they have to pay for all those TV ads!

Check your insurace policy to see if they provide one free windscreen replacement per year. I was lucky that mine did...

I was also quoted about $250 for a windscreen replacement for my NC. Best of luck with it.

When they cut out the old screen inevitably the paint in the \"windscreen channel\" will also be cut into exposing bare metal. Make sure it is primed before fitting the new screen to avoid a future corrosion problem.

Andrew,

FX Auto glass - 0412 897 844 he comes on site. He has done two windscreens for me in Smurfette and Tweety. Cost $146 each time. Note that he does not use the original Mazda rubber surround (unless it is in good nick). That part alone is over $150 from Mazda. He just uses a fits all type.

I had mine replaced for about $150 or $170 re-using the surround in pumpkin. I used Novus Frankston. That was about a year and half ago. Novus only had glass that was tinted blue for the top 2 or 3 inches, which could be an issue for taller drivers, but is a bonus for short ar$es like me.

It cost me $270 to get mine done through a Mazda dealer. The guy that does my chip repairs charges $30. O'Brians sounds like a ripoff
