FM Butterfly braces - Another go at a group order

Hi All,

As some of you may have seen on my previous threads on the subject the butterfly braces a few of us tried to get our hands on back in early Feb never got here, apparently lost by those geniuses in customs.

Basically Simone is prepared to have another go at an order and I know I'm definitely in, but she asked if I wanted to sound out the forum folk on a group buy so hence this post. If yah don't know what a butterfly brace is the questions you have to ask yourselves are:

Do I have a 1990-2000 model MX5 (ie NA6, NA8 or NB8A)?

Do I hate general rattles in the body. shaky passenger seat and shudder at the thought of potholes?

Does my hard suspension sometimes drive me nuts (long trips?)

If the answer is yes to the above maybe you should have a look at this:

http://www.flyinmiata.com/index.php?deptid=4538&parentid=0&stocknumber=13-69920%20%2090-97

There are also links to customer reviews on this page, which are rather complimentary 8)

The price quoted for the group buy previously was around the $650 - high $600's mark each. Not cheap I know, but to me these are problems worth solving and the butterfly brace seems to do a good job of it. Of course the more people get involved the more the delivery charge comes down and therefore the cost for everyone.

If you would like to participate, please let simone at mx5 mania know ASAP. Depending on interest most likely the the order will be sent around about Monday next week.

Cheers

Steve

:?
Worth considering, but I don't know that I wanna spend the money when the car isn't paid off yet.

What other implications are there with these things?

Maybe I should wait for you to buy it first then? :P

In hindsight, implications was a bit of a negative word. I was more thinking pros and cons... brain's just a little dead at the moment.

I knew that.

conns.....a bit of extra weight.
Pros. heaps of extra rigidety but the benefit far outweights the little extra weight if you like to drive hard.

Yeah, the bit of extra weight doesn't worry me. I put someone in the car next to me and it's already extra weight, so it's no biggie.

How easy is the install? Or will it be an 'everyone turn up to mania and we'll all get 'em bolted on' type of affair?

What happened with everyone's money last time if you didn't get the braces?

Originally Simone quoted me a VERY reasonable price to fit but thats obviously before they have attempted to actually fit one. It's not quite just a matter of drilling a few holes, you have to make sure you dont inadvertently drill through a couple of electrical cables  :frown: :P . From what I understand it isn't that hard tho. Depending on the state of your chassis rails (mine are a little banged up as I guess many are) it may require the assistance of BFH - a closely related brother of the BFG for all you DOOM fans out there

BTW we never lost any money but Mania sure did. Considering the difficulties experienced and the length of time involved Simone was very gracious about the whole thing.

Fellas, I bought one of these

http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/product_info.php/products_id/361?osCsid=558e711cb589258cefe5a3f9706d9094

And it's erm..abit less rattly in the front and has sharper turn in. Cost about $150 AUD delivered. I'm going to get the rear.

I would dearly love to get the butterfly brace but what's the possibility that it's going to get through customs? Or maybe I should wait for someone to get it first :P

Anyway this is what it looks like after fitted. Bolts straight to existing holes...which means mazda had always wanted to fit something there..and only followed suit with the NB8B. I have an NB8A. Evil evil evil!

Nonetheless the Butterfly bracing is always a better bet. Just that..I got impatient.

Have a look at the bracing on the NB MPS (Jap spec) if you get a chance. It is a work of art.

I have emailed Simone about going in on the bulk purchase.

Thanks!
