Hard top clips

Postby Yoshi » Sun Nov 12, 2006 11:18 am

Those two hard top clips on either side of the boot lid that hold the hard top on. How would i go about tightening them if they were to come loose? Im pretty sure that i have found the cause of the annoying rattle that has come about over time, and that is it!
I can see that you need a philips head screw driver to get it from the top. However, when i go to get it from the bottom, inside the boot, all i see is a small hole that i cant get my hand into to feel to see what it is. :? 10mm bolt?? Any help would be appreciated.

That shiny metal bit swivels out of the way from memory.

Then you can adjust the bits the Frankenstein bolts use from above with the hardtop on the car.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

They should screw into a captive nut, ie a nut welded to the body. If yours dont tighten up maybe the nut has unattached itself. :frown:

I think I've got the same problem. My bolts have become loose and never stay up. Can we get the captive nut from any hardware store or is it a Mazda accessory?

:x Dimmit, that seems to make a lot of sense. I was wondering how they expected you to get at it from the bottom.
I think my only option is to somehow reach up and hold the nut from the bottom and unscrew the screw from the top. Seems like a bit of a mission impossible. What im going to do once i got it out, i have no idea either. :? Or...i might just try and tighten it insted.
I have taken off the black braket that hides the fuel pipes, but behind that seems to be another plate attached to the body, it has bolts. I think i might try taking that off because it would make it a lot easier if i could get it off. Anyone know if it comes off???

Also, there is a crazy rattle coming from that corner. This must be the cause dammit.

zhenjie,
from what i understand, its not a matter of the nut missing, but the nut breaking away from the body, and somehow need to be welded, or what not, back on.

im thiught a captive nut was just an ordinary nut that is welded to the body of the car...

if yours has broken off the body it will probably need to be rewelded on
