Have a search in the forum and you'll come across many threads with Style Bar vs Roll Bar... Hours of fun there for all....

That looks like the Ebay style bar we all speak of, except that the welds on that look pretty horrible. Mine look a lot cleaner and shiny than that.

i got 2 delivered for under $400.

It is cheaper buying from the US becasue the ones on eBay Oz are bought from the US then sold at a profit.

I think we got ours from xs_power. Hell, you might see my car advertising for them still

go for a mazdaspeed roll bar...bolts all the way deep down almost to the chasis (or could be the chassis - i dont know). They look great and are very safe.

^------- they're not actually that safe unless you have the right seat for it.

The difference is that a style bar does not have rear support eg. it doesn't have a bar going from the top to the rear of the parcel shelf.

Style bar and roll bar are separated like this (as such) only on this forum. For example, I would call anything which isn't going to save you in a roll-over a style bar - this would include the ebay bling/style bars and \"roll cages\" such as BD *struggles into flame proof suit*.

YOU DO NEED A MOD PLATE FOR THE EBAY STYLE BAR. I don't know of anyone who has been pinged for having the bar without the plate (I also don't know anyone who HAS a mod plate for their style bar), but technically, they aren't legal without the mod plate. There was a massive thread a few months back about it, and I am just repeating what I have read there.

well, in QLD you need a mod plate boags anyway :)

i couldn't believe the bullsh*t one had to go thru to transfer the rego from tassie to QLD.........but basically, any modification AWAY from factory has to be approved & plated, my little canter had more rivets in the door surrounds than the fookin' Story Bridge

1stly BD roll cage is not a roll Cage. Its a roll bar. Roll cage in my books is something like the hardcore racers have & it surrounds them completely.

2nd Style bars are not only refered to as style bars here, they are referd to that in many other forums.....one being Miata.net.

3rdly style bars are referd to stylebars because they enhance the style of the car they are installed on. they do not enhance the structural rigitety like a roll bar or roll cage.

4thly i dare say both style & roll bar will help save your head in a roll over .
in my resreach i've never come across a style bar doing the infamous mousetrap. But theoretically if you do a roll over at 180km/h i don't think anything mutch is going to save you, in a car not fitted with rollcage & racing harness
One example is a blue turboed Mx5 in the UK had a style bar fitted & rolled it very badly. At a very high speed but the little exrta strenth gave the guy just enough room to save his head. & he wasn't going slow either. The stylebar was credited with helping to save his life. Another is rodent. Even his softop held up a little bit to give his head that little bit of extra room to stop it being spaltered all over the road. But this doesn't garrantee safety in a roll over.

I don't have a problem with your point of view & i'm not trying to flame you. I just don't agree with you. so let the discussion begin.

by the way i'm also very happy to be corrected if i've made any false statements. as this is a very dear subject of mine & if i'm wrong I don't mind being constuctively corrected.
