hundred buck blocker

Though about doing this for a while and finally had a free day to knock it up.
Here's a pic of the results, not too shabby:
Bought the lexan from Buntings, the edging from Cluck rubber. Change out of $100 and very happy with the result. Held on to the strut brace with pipe clamps which have been sheathed in heat-shrink plastic.
And the template:
Anyone wants a loan to roll their own, you're most welcome. Just trace it out, then cut very carefully with a jigsaw.

I got a factory one for $150 I think. The reason I didn't go one of those is because I thought it would make puting the roof on and off impossible from inside the car. Is this the case?

I see a bit of a problem putting up the top while sitting in the car. Do you have to get out to do it - or does it just swivel on the tubing and lay flat ?

no different to having a BD bar - you reach back over your right shoulder and pull the roof up by the frame until you can grab the centre handle. Takes a little practice and easy to dislocate your shoulder, but can be done

I designed it to clear the softop, and it's kind of handy being upright when you stow stuff behind it, it doesn't come flying forward when you emergency brake. Still you do have to reach over it to raise the top. It will swivel on the brace, but you need to loosen off the nuts a tad first, and the seats would have to be further forward to clear the underhang bit. Maybe wingnuts would be a better choice here (I was going to get some domenuts over the weekend).
I'll do a detailed costing exercise tonight and see exactly what it cost me in materials, I think it's a lot less than $100, but I couldn't make good use of the lexan sheet I bought, just can't get 2 cuts to the sheet - there may be better options here, other than Buntings standard cuts.
