hey, before i get flamed I did search around for the answer to this but couldn't get any definate answers, and I haven't had a chance to actually look under the bonnet but need to replace a non working headlight tonight.
so it's 1992, australian delivered mx5. do i have sealed beams or can i just replace the globes? if it's a sealed beam, where can I get them from?

You can just replace the globes....
Pop up the lights on the retractor switch, then undo the 4 screws on the side and remove the black plastic shielding. There are 3 screws holding the headlamp onto the pop up mechanism, undo those and the headlamp falls out. It's then a fairly straighfwd business of unplugging it at the back, and then unclipping the globe and putting in a new one.
Just go to your local parts shoppe and ask for a std H4 globe.

As an Aussie delivered 5 it should not have sealed head lights. If it does turn out to have sealed beams I would suggest that you head down to your local auto parts store and get some Hella H4 headlights. You can buy it as a kit containing two headlights, with bulbs. This way you get better quality of headlight and the ability to just change the bulbs down the line.

imports have em.. well mine does anyway... $10 (maybe $15) each,cost no more than globes and just as easy to replace. Give off pretty good light aswell.
