Try pulling the door trim off and lubricating the window tracks inside the door

There are nylon rollers that are supposed to slide in metal tracks inside the door cavity. Maybe there is something lodged in the track or the rollers are seized or worn. I've heard the noise you are talking about in an NB8A. But in that car it only made the noise when it was hot. I never had a chance to investigate the cause of the problem though. The owner decided to buy a new car.

I had my drivers side door skin off the other day so lubed the power window too.

The drivers side window was almost a second faster than the passanger side so I ended up doing them both.

I don't know what is the correct item to use ...

I use teflon based mountain bike chain lubricant and Nulon \"Ezi-Glide\" clear silicon lube on the rubber bits. This stuff worked like magic on sliding doors and hinges too.

If you get a bottle with a thin plastic straw you can give the window \"tracks\" a little lube every now and then without taking the door skin off. Just wind down the window and gently pull the rubber back until you see the tops of the tracks.
