$300 is a bargain if they're doing the lot for you. :D

It's not hard to take the frame off and remove the top and then put it all back on again, but it is a pain in the backside. I'd say set aside the best part of a day for removal and the same for installation (especially if you haven't done it before). Take your time and be careful - you don't want to tear the top or break the rain rail.

Keith Tanner's book MX5 Performance Projects has a fairly easy to understand guide to the job - see if you can borrow a copy.
