Anyone know how much a re-spray is (not talking about a bare metal respray) for a MX-5 (NA) . Doesn't have to be ***** in the respect of the age of the car and the fact it is not a metalic paint ?

I have a bit of age discoloration (esp. the front bumper which is plastic underneath), a few scratches, and some very small dents.
I have tried the polishes to restore color, and that colored turtle wax polish as well, with limited results.

I assume the small size of the mx-5 must count for something in the cost.

DId you do this or was it a professional detailer ?

I tried over the weekend using an aerisol (on a small section)
and the result was crap. The outcome was textured. I believe because the spray droplets where too big.

Would you say with the right gear (hire it) an ameteur can get a good result
or have you done this several times before ?

My color is brillant black. How do you actually go about getting the paint for use in a sprayer ?

but what would you say a ball mark figure would be for a good respray on an evo gold then??

i have too many stone chips and door dings and they arent easy to buff out

pluse i'd like to see whats availble to give the colour a bit more depth, but my knowledge of whats out there is rather limited.

Wow, you want to re-spray the Evo Glod MX that is featured on your cardomain page?!?!?!?!

You must like your cars totally perfect, cause the one on your cardomain page looks pretty fracking good already.......

A good re-spray will probably cost you anywhere from $2K to $10K, depending on what you want done (bare metal or not) and where you take it.

Or you could get one of those paintless dent removal people to take out your dents for a few hundred dollars, and then get a professional detailer to touch up the stone chips and give your car a good going over for another few hundred dollars.

But man, if you can talk your significant other around to letting you get a full re-spray, then you will be my HERO!!!

My wife would tear me a new asshole if I tried something like that. Hell, she even wanted the reciepts to prove that my re-paint only really cost me $39.90.......

there's the beauty of being single and still living at home (im not as old as you think mind you that dosnt mean im loaded... still an apprentice )
the car was pretty good till i had a minor front end and they decided to get a new bumper.. the new bumpers paint seems to be rather poorly stuck on and the coal trucks in the area have knocked a good few chunks out... not to mention my brothers rediculas car port attacking the front corner i know thats all only on the front gaurd but, if you look around theres in perfections on almost every panel and if the car were another colour it would look rough as guts.
ive seen an MR2 in a colour simliar to mine ill have alook for some photos.. it just has so much more depth to the paint. but looks like its just a special clear?? or top coat??

i dunno i just think the evo gold could be better.. i admit in the right light it looks great. but i think your loosing some of the cars curves... im basically looking at options to bring out all those sexy curves

for example most people dont see the buldge on the bonnet at all... ive had afew people once their up close to my car and have been looking at it for awhile just click and go "hey! theres a buldge there"

I reckon the standard Evo Gold colour looks better actually, but it's all personal preference.

your mate own a spray shop?i have a mate thats a spray painter.. just finished his trade, he always said he'd do my car for me at pretty much cost price.. but i dont think he ever thought i'd take him up on it

You get what you pays for! The sort of paint job you are after will cost big bucks. You need expensive paints and a skilled painter to get depth.
I wouldn't go mucking around with the original colour as you will kill its resale and sell-ability.

I resprayed an 87 corolla @ easter for $600, that included 2 hours in the booth, and spraypainter for an hour. I did the prep work and it came out acceptable.

It was not by any means an autosalon contender, but it was better than most 'new' cars that are sold today.

I would however accept a $4K price if the 'whole' job was done by professionals who were just as passionate as the car being sprayed (corollas need not apply)
