npn4875 and I bought 2 from the US had them delivered and installed them on our cars for under $400. FOR 2!
We don't have hard tops but it fits fine under the soft top without rubbing. I am in brisbane if you want to try your hard top on my car to see if it fits. And yes I have the Frankenstein bolts on the outside, but not the ones near the soft top hinge. PM if you need any help.
Cheers,
Boags
PS - improved chassis rigidity was a side effect.

The bars are not all created equal. Most of them on Ebay are knock offs or seconds. I have the same bar from the same supplier as Boags and it has one hoop (passenger side) higher than the other. The higher hoop on mine does just touch the soft top window zip and can be an annoyance at 100km/hr. Doesn't bother me because I have the top up once in every second blue moon.
I put one on a friend's NB and it touches the soft top glass on one side. I've seen a lot of these Racing Beat type (knock offs/copies/seconds/whatever) and at least 70% of them are asymmetric.
It does stiffen up the car body, does not require any holes to be drilled, is easily removed and is big instant bling. However, seat back recline is restricted.
Will it save you in a rollover? Depends on how lucky you are. I guess the same goes for a \"proper\" roll bar. But unless you have a full harness on at the time I believe it's a raffle anyway.
Will it kill you in a rollover? Probably not, but if it isn't your lucky day.......
The hardest part about fitting them is cutting the plastic seat belt tower mouldings for a neat fit. Oh, and the nuts etc. that they come with are insufficient and crap. Budget another $5 or so for them.
Still want one

I bought two bars from ebay both touches the hard top but clears the soft top (NA 89 and 94) on the passenger side. Ended up taking it to a welder and cut both sides to make it lower.
Now it sits a clear 3cms. Alot of heartaches but super happy at the moment and much cheaper than the original heheh
