I suspect the plug has disconnected from the centre console switch.

If my memory serves me correctly.....On My NA the lights don't work if the plug is left unattached.....but certainly worth checking.

If the doors go up but not down via the stalk switch and the centre console switch does nothing, then the centre console switch has died or the plug is disconnected. All \"down\" power to the doors is routed through that switch.

Other possibility is retractable headlight unit internal failure.

Had this problem when my ground wire was not attached correctly.

I think all the grounds for the headlight system go through the multiple connection in the engine bay on the passenger side under the washer bottle. Worth cleaning/checking.

I had this problem, but Fuzzlets dodgy wiring to the rescue solved it. The gremlin that stopped making it work is now making it work, and i dare not try to understand how

Haha sorry ill reword that. The lights randomly stopped going down, so i rigged up a system with a couple of relays to bypass the factory wiring

well basically when I stripped all the under dash back heater motor, ducting
etc etc I didn't plug back in a plug a particular plug ...it is in the heater bundle
so i didn't think it would be required to make the lights work ..very weird
apparently there is a lot of inter related wiring going on in the MX5 ...thus
most guys setting up race cars don't hack into the wiring bundles at all they
just cable tie it all up as is...

I love how people leave out small clues as to what might be causing the problem.

Something along the lines of \"I ripped out half my dash wiring and now my headlights dont go down\" would have been a lot more helpful than the original post.
