Boot polish for the roof
This might sound really dumb... But I tryed a bit of boot polish on my roof a few months ago, gave it a nice shine (but not TOO shiny)
I was suprised that it retained its shinyness after weeks of both sun and rain.
Has not (that I know of) affected my roof in any way (mines vinyl)
Alot cheaper, more available and you can probably just steal some off your mum like I did.
I will post some pictures later

I did a search and I found this little blurb from this site. Looks like you're onto something good for once Maxine.
In my case it's a vinyl hood. I did nothing for a year or two after buying the car, but to go to a UK MX5OC gathering I decided something would have to be done. I'd heard that ordinary boot polish gave good results cheaply, so tried it and was astounded at how the roof was transformed. I always just used that subsequently, just once or twice a year, and the hoods still looking fine after 16 years (albeit it's succumbed to the usual \"splitting over the windows\" problem).
Here's what a treated vinyl hood looks like for those needing to renovate theirs:

Armourall works well too, i used it for a few years before i removed the top in favor of a sub..
But it worked fine for me.. keep a continually new looking gleam on the vinyl and beaded in the wet too..
Ive just pulled it out of my attic after 2 years and it still looks like new.. pity about my plastic window though.
Polish would work well too thought id imagine...ill have to consider that after i get a new roof!

Prevention - put the top boot on when the roof is down. Cure - repaint the interior with vinyl spray and use that top boot.

Yep, works well and is a good waterproofing compound.

Well, I suppose that would do the same job... I used a bottle filled with liquid with a sponge applicator stuck on the top of it

That stuff works great to get rid of the faded underside too.
Shiney black one with added red bits. Member of the fart club. Now with extra doof and Sunlong. - deceased and gone to heaven
