as my mechanic says to me \"you would forget yer balls if they werent in a bag\"

i dont want to break anything, and i have slim access to the boot from where i just removed the centre stoplight - attempts to find key with coathanger and magnet have so far been unsuccessful...

some choice's

1: Drill out lock.....may or may not work. But it means either having a different lock on your boot once you repair it. Or spend about $400 at mazda changing all the locks so you can keep all the locks with 1 key.

2: break the rear driverside light reach in. & unlock. also costly.

3: check your balls......make sure they are still in the bag. as both options above require big testies.

4: hope someone comes up with a cheaper alternative.

5: get someone to kick you in the groin.....until they are black & blue....to remind you to get a spare key cut for next time.

1: i did have a halfassd go @ manipulating the lock, but the magnet was more tempting. Unfortunately, I have retrieved half of the socket set from in the boot, but alas, no key.

2: yes, but would force me to replace it with much wanted, but cost-unjustified "bling" items - a tempting alternative...


3: scratching them has proved to not offer any better solutions...

5: when i retrieve the key, i am going to do that job myself...

Take the car to a locksmith. He will have the tool which he can use to manipulate your locking mechanism without doing any damage. It is going to cost you whichever way you go but these guys can do it in a trice.

It seems that one way to get into the boot is to drill a small hole in the panel under number plate. This gives you access to the lock mechinisim.

See how you go.

ps....once you get the keys, get a spare cut

yes, it is possible to fit a body in the boot of an NA at least. it involved a late night at a pizza joint and a cop car turning up after being called by a passing driver that a drug deal was going on when he saw us all standing around the boot and laughing . the cop was impressed we'd managed it though so left in a good mood.

I locked my only key in the boot of my second mx the day I got it. I worked out if you lie under the boot there are a couple of round access holes there that are stuck down with sealant. I just pushed one out and I could get my arm into the boot and pull the trim off the lock and then flick the mechanism with my finger - boot pops open, and I can get into my car again!

I've always been paranoid about locking the key in the NA6 boot.

I do also have a spare key secured on the car somewhere. Just for that reason.

I'm really relieved this has been resolved in a goood way. That thread juffa pointed to is gold.

Might be a good idear to keep this info somewhere.

i think the fewer ppl who know about getting into the boot the better. the mx5 boot is the only safe haven in the car.

invest in a electronic boot release and hide the button somewhere, not only does it make opening the boot piss easy but you can open it in times like these.

unless u lock the car then put the keys in the boot with a hardtop on...
