Brushed aluminium interior dash for NB

Postby marcusus » Fri Jul 21, 2006 6:51 pm

Anyone know where I can get this from? I don't want chrome, nor do I want wood grain. I'll consider carbon fibre style, but I'd much prefer brushed/matte aluminium.

I wouldn't mind fitting out all the crappy black plastic bits with the aluminium look, but I can't seem to find the right stuff. I wanna try and find bits for all the centre trim bits and the vent rings specifically, but if there are any other bits I missed, I'm keen to see.

I too would like to know if anyone can point me to something like this. (NO CHROME!)

I recently asked Bevan where he got his, but turns out he got it with the car and doesnt know where they could be sourced (other than ebay).

I believe it was standard from the factory on 2004+ NB models (also when they added the speakers to the windblocker)

I found my handbrake looked heaps better with some leather and aluminium, so I'd like to get the rest of the interior matching eventually.

I've considered going to my local mazda dealer and asking them (I have the phone number and all that jazz... I actually asked on the mazda australia website, but they just gave me the number and told me to ring them) but I get the feeling it'll be ridiculously expensive.

However, if they have the right parts, it could be worth it. Keep in mind I want this trim on my little single din cubby holder too, because it'll look like crap if that's still black.

The closest I can find on eBay is here. Main problem with this is that it's the european style clock din holder, rather than the single din cubby hole that we get here, so that kinda ruins it. I'm in the process of trying to find a reasonable picture of the slot holder I have so I can show that seller what trim I'm looking for and see if they have it.

This stuff is only stick on though, so it's not as nice as a properly made oem part from mazda.

That does look quite cool. I have never seen that clock insert before, I assume its a Euro release thing we never saw in Australia?

I'd be keen to find out what you end up buying, please keep us posted!

Checked

And checked.

I actually already took a peek at both of them before I posted this thread. I actually went to MX5 mania maybe 2 hours before I made the thread. MX5 Mania currently has what I had in my previous MX in terms of trim. A carbon fibre type look that sticks on. However, I don't think they had the single din space hole stick on bit, and at $100, I may as well go for something similar off eBay which'll have more sticky bits for the same price.

MX5parts seemed to only have a lot of chrome, and no brushed/matte aluminium, which is a shame.

To be honest, I'd much rather buy new surrounds and have a proper OEM aluminium type look, but unless someone knows where they can be picked up cheap, I don't think it's a very viable option.

you could always get your bits coated in a brushed aluminium finish by Modicoat.

I have the brushed alloy vent rings that came with the SP and the silver console facia from the Titanium model. All genuine Mazda parts. The radio surround excluding the gear stick surround was around $200 from memory which is insane for a piece of silver painted plastic, but it brightens up the drap black stock interior. Luckily the gear stick surround was already supplied by Mazda.

I wonder if you could find any of this stuff at a wrecker? For eg. I know that the mazda wrecker in Clayton, Vic goes OS and brings back lots of MX5 stuff.... I have bought NB windblocker from him that came off a late NB8B at the time that was written off in Japan, he bought the wreck and pulled off all the bits - ships it back to Oz. Which i understand is very common practice.

Just a thought... would take some running around and some patience

Garry: Thanks for that. At least now I know I can always go to Mazda and tell them that I want certain parts in the silver trim and they'll be able to provide. OEM stuff always looks so much nicer than, say, me buying those stickers :P

Amanda: Thought about the wreckers here in Syd. The one I used to go to when I still had my KB laser is pick n payless, but when I had a look at their website, they didn't have any MX5's listed. That being said, I should just call them first and see what they say.

Just wanted to give those interested a heads up that pastapete has one of those dash trim kits for sale on the used parts of this forum. He asked for $50pp and I put my hand up but if anyone else desperately wants it then I wont claim first dibs on it.

I'm actually half thinking that I really only want the vent rings and the something around the shift surround.

Mx5 mania has this one: http://www.mx5mania.com.au/product703.htm
which i think is the same as some of the mazda oems. Anyone got a better picture of one installed and does it in fact get screwed onto the plastic part?

Also has anyone got pics of the brushed vent rings (these ones: http://www.mx5mania.com.au/product639.htm)

I sent a PM to pastapete too.... I was thinking of peeling off (god I hope I can) my chrome vent rings and go for something more brushed - this would match up with my OEM Mazda Fashion Bar better I thinks. And I would love all those other parts too add to my interior.

Would using the hairdryer on the vent rings help melt the glue from the double sided tape??

Seems we all saw that thread. I PMed him too.

It does look kinda like the ones off eBay, or at least something similar. I wonder if that's where he got them from?
I had a poke around, and it seems he has an NC, so perhaps he's selling the kit because it doesn't fit the car.

So who wants this kit then? :P
