AFAIK they are all screwed on. The Eunos (Japanese domestic product) has the same gear lever which has a screw thread on top. Maybe the knob (the one on there now) is partly broken inside which is why you're getting some slight play in it.

Make sure it hasn't got a locking grub screw through the side of the knob base onto the lever, then turn that knob anti-clockwise until it submits and comes off :mrgreen:

having just changed my gear knob for the third time i know what you are talking about.

you can twist the whole gear shaft left and right without the knob becoming loose. there is a bit of play in the shaft.

JBT is right about them all being screwed in. I have an import Eunos as well.

and yes you're right about it taking the strength of king kong to get it loose.

just keep twisting it and make sure you're twisting the right way. anti clock wise :)
