AFAIK they are all screwed on. The Eunos (Japanese domestic product) has the same gear lever which has a screw thread on top. Maybe the knob (the one on there now) is partly broken inside which is why you're getting some slight play in it.
Make sure it hasn't got a locking grub screw through the side of the knob base onto the lever, then turn that knob anti-clockwise until it submits and comes off
