Hi,
just looking for some advice on a new soft-top.
Am considering the ones on EBay from http://www.prestigeautotrim.com/ebay/mazda_mx5.htm

$800 or $900 or $1000 depending on which quality of glass equipped soft-top plus $30 postage.
Anyone had one fitted? Any good?
Would probably get the $1000 one.
What do you think of getting one in dark blue for a white NA? The link to eBay above shows the blue top.

I had a Bestops top (zip plastic window) fitted by an upholsterer in Brisbane. $1000 supplied and fitted. Same as OEM.

Yes, you can get an original style one for $500 plus about $500 fitting but I'm too lazy to unzip so it's better I get a non-zip glass.

i got mine from prestigeauto off their dealer on ebay. no complaints here.

SuperMazdaKart, which one did you get? Vinyl, stayfast, Mohair?
Also, what do you think about a blue top. A couple of mates vote for the black.

i got a regular black vinyl with demistered glass. was really tempted to get a red mohair one but couldn't quite justify it enough.

black is normal for a convertible, a colored one would be more attention grabbing. if your car is a nice color to be comboed with blue, then go for it if you want it & can afford. blue on a red car would be just silly though.

Yes...from England.
I heard that many years ago there were replacement tops (maybe MG's or something) that were not built for our high UV levels and would fade badly quickly.
Apparently that has been well and truly overcome.
So I don't think there should be a problem that it's coming from England.
Maybe if the company are shonks then that would be a problem.
As for distance travelled in the post, I can't see a problem.

Whatever you do don't get a zip out glass window,you have to unzip to fold it,I had one and hated it.

the UK actually i think. mine came fine from them, was worried about the glass breaking but nope, didn't happen.

I ordered one from the UK about 8 months ago for about $470 odd AUD (from memory). I had to pay some import tax, but that was negligible. I have since fitted it myself and it fits well. I love the plastic rear window zip, so much easier to use then the original zip! No problems re fading either and my car sits in the sun all day at work.

I spent a whole weekend replacing mine, as I painted the rear metal bar thing that holds the bottom of the roof in place as well as cleaning out the water ducts. An extra pair of hands help.

I removed my soft top + frame last weekend as the top had ripped all the way around the zipper

I'm dreading the day i have to get a new soft-top fitted lol. It's definately gonna hurt the bank balance!

to put a glass back window on an NA does it require the NB frame? or can it still fold down with the standard frame on the NA?

You can use the NB frame, or rivet a couple of straps to the NA to hold the 2 rear bars at the correct spacing.

I did the strap rivetting option on mine when I got the glass windowed roof. It works fine but I often need to push the window slightly to make sure it drops into place when I lower the roof.

An NB frame would be a better option (although more expensive), but the strap method is a great alternative if your frame is still in good condition.
