Gear Knob Install

Gear Knob Install
Hi Guys,
I might sound like a knob, but Im having difficulties removing the original stock black gear knob so that I can fit the nice new Isotta one I just bought.
Ive tried everything aside from brute strength to try and twist it off.
Ive got a couple of extra gear knobs and they do have threads through them indicating that the one installed should theoretically screw off.
Can anyone confirm whether or not I need to dismantle the center console to see if there are any screws preventing the original OEM gearknob to screw off?
Any help will be greatly appreciated

There would only be a grub screw if anything.
This has been mentioned in another thread and IIRC brute force was the way to go - there is some glue that needs to be cracked.

As I have posted on this topic before - if you wish to keep the knob undamaged, use one the 'kitchen helper' rubber lid removers - basically a handle with an adjustable rubber strap that works like an oil filter wrench and gives you around 6\" leverage and won't mark the knob. These things are so usefull they have begun to appear in tool shops and places like Bunnings and Super Cheep, a worthy addition to your workshop and ideal for jobs like these.

Those Kitchen Helper beasties are great - I have them in 3 sizes.
It was what I used to take off my standard gear knob when all else had failed.

Thanks for your responses guys.
I finally managed to twist the gearknob off with good old brute force
Here are some pics of my new shiny Isotta Drake gearknob:
One problem, the gear knob is a bit too big and my knuckles bump into my head unit when I switch to first/third gear
I may need to get a newer and flatter head unit or sand down my knuckles... decisions decisions...
