Where can I get the sleepy eye controller or is there a DIY way to do it like the 180sx (homejob)?

There is a DIY mod. Basically, you put a switch in line with the headlight motor fuse and voila!
There is a site which shows the pics and stuff. i will try to dig it up later.
Cheers

How do you stop the light lids from jiggling around and wearing out the headlight mechanism when they're only raised a little bit?
We did a test run on the Moneypit and the lights bounced around heaps making untold rattly noises.

You can't really. After you go over a few bumps, you'll notice that the headlights are now at different heights, there seems to be a ratcheting effect as the light pods jiggle about.
But the aftermarket solution is a Pivot RHU-M:
http://www.pivotusa.com/accessories/pivrhu.htmIt doesn't work any better than the DIY solution, but you do get a cool little black box to attach to your car (I'm not trying to knock it, I've got one myself).

Thanks Bab...that was the exact controller I was looking at. How much did it cost you and is it easy to install?

I'm pretty sure maxwolfie achieved his by only rewiring the switch on the centre console, but have no idea how. One of these days I'll tear his dash apart and report back

garry is right
going over big bumps will knock the right one down and leave the left one up (in my experiences, its always the right one that goes down.... that is, the right one if your driving)

I think it was $70 or so to buy, and to install it's just a few wires, and it was pretty easy to install. You do need to get at the back of the retractor button (under the hazard button), and for that you need to remove the centre console, which is probably the only fiddly part.
If you go to the pivotusa site you can d/l the instructions at:
