Painting Brake Calipers.....
Hi All,
I just thought about the idea of painting my new clalipers since they are not on the car yet. Anyone done it/or have any advice? What type of paint ect.....
Was going to get some crinkle paint for the rocker cover too.....

I've used the VHT spray can stuff. Calipers were off the car, so it was easy to clean them up and spray them. Paint started peeling, flaking and discoloured after 6 months.
I ended up painting over them with a tin of cheap enamel paint worth $5. It's now been 6 months and they still look great!
If I had a choice, I'd be powder coating them next time.

Some wire brushes, can of brake cleaner and a bit of elbow grease.
I did my original NA6 calipers with a can of the VHT brake paint. It lasted a year and still looked fine when I swapped them for the bigger ones.

this is very worth while changes the car totaly. i went a step further to do this.

two cans of VHT, roll of masking tape and a razor blade/scalpel (and some metho and kero to clean
)
find Mazda logo somewhere on the net (google images) print it out
masking tape the mazda logo to a piece of plastic or card board and cut it out to make a template (fiddly but take your time) out of the masking tape (found using two layers of tape can help)
CLEANING!--> clean with kero then lastly with metho or thinners kero petrol and disel will leave a film or greasy coat and wont leave a good surface for the paint to bond too. things like thinners and metho in particular will evaporate mostly and leave a good surface to paint on. i used kero as its good at eating away grease and grime and metho after as its good at eating away kero
mask up claipers (cover lines and fittings etc) paint brakes backing colour and let dry! (give it a good coat or two)
then place on template (template being the outter part of the tape... you should have tape covering all but what you want the logo to look like
) and cover/tape over all other surfaces and paint on log. give it just enough coats so the backing colour dosnt show through.
peel off the template and tape and smile

would look great red with wihte letters too! and you can do it to your already painted calipers
what colour car you have?
