The prefered method is with a BFH but that will tend to destroy your dash and head unit. But it will make you feel better.
A less radical approach would be to remove the two thin strips of plastic down each side of the head unit to reveal 3 access holes on each side. The head unit is held in by 2 spring steel clips on each side. You need to poke something in the access holes to push the clips towards the headunit to get them to release from the dash then push the head unit out from behind. It can take a couple of seconds to many minutes of cursing and swearing depending on how good you are at poking things in dark holes and hitting the right spot.
Good luck.

Follow Garry's intructions. The best thing I have found for the holes is nails, MUCH better than coathangers. Get ones that only just fit in the holes and push them in with the pointy end angling out away from the centre of the head unit. They don't actually have to go in too far, prob only about 4cm max.
The best way to get a grip on the unit is to remove the blanking plate. It is that spare plate with nothing on it that sits below the preset buttons and between the volume and tuning knobs. If you look at the very lower edge of this plate, there is a small horizontal gap that is perfect for a thin flathead screw driver. Stick it in there and lever the blanking plate out.
With the 6 nails in the holes, grab the unit in the gap where the blanking plate was a yank it out. If the nails were put in properly, there shouldn't be much resistance in removing it.
Good Luck!
