hey all.

tried out the turtle clear coat/hard coat polish today and i wasnt impressed at all....it left streaks all over paint job that wouldnt buff out no matter how hard i tried. took it for a 5min drive and already i have dust sticking all over it...

whats a good 'off the shelf' polish to use for BLACK cars??

yeah tried it also but still wasnt very impressed due to dust also sticking...

i have heaps of polishes in my shed...the best one funnily enough is the kitten polish...was only like $5.

I've just started using AutoGlym
very nice finish, no streaks. its pretty good but $44 per 1 litre bottle...

could have bought a couple of tins of kitten.

tried the meguirs GOLD CLASS a fee times on different cars...not the best...

black cars... a b*%#@ to maintain... but try the meguiars nxt generation wax...

I have tried the Autoglym Resin Polish and the Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection.

I found that they seemed to attract dust.

I have gone over to the Meguiars NXT wax, which does not seem to attract dust as much.

So now I polish with the Autoglym Polish, wipe off, wax with the NXT, wipe off. Works very well, and attracts less dust. IMHO there is nothing out there that compares to the Autoglym Resin Polish.

I recall the picture taken earlier this week by a gent who has just finished his car with Swissol. I get what appears to be a similar depth. Would love to try the Swissol, but just cannot justify it right now.

I suspect the dust attracting quality comes from the Carnuba wax found in the Extra Gloss Protection, Meguiars Gold Class, etc. I wonder how the Swissol goes?

My white SP (in the photo) is usually under a dust cover as I ride a bike to work most days. So can't comment on the dust issue.

However, the big advantage of the premium waxes like Swissol (I'm not sure about Autoglym - I thinks it sits halfway between a premium brand and entry level brands like Meguires) is it feeds the paint with the essential oil carriers. Other lesser waxes use petrolium products for carriers which don't do the paint too much good and lead to it drying out.

Although the purchase price is high, a tub of Swissol will last many many years. That's despite using it on the Lexus, the MX5 and demonstrating it to a quite a few converts

I agree with your sentiments about AutoGlym. I think it is an upper-mid level product. I would put Meguiars, Mothers in the lower-mid of product quality, with the stuff from KMart/BigW at the lower end.

Swissol is something I want to try, but I never quite get around to buying some. Maybe the next car I get on lease I will buy some.

The Autoglym Resin Polish is a paint feeder, and does not appear to have any abrasive properties at all. Any work it does on the paint is through chemical action only.

I use th Mother's California Gold three stage system. Takes a long time to do but the results were great on my Grace Green car.

I've also got a black 1998 MX5. I bought it a couple of months ago off a guy who always used mothers california gold. The car looks immaculate... no where near its age. Very impressed. Will post some pics up when i get a chance

Have also been recommended maguires too though.

I used my Mothers stuff last weekend for the first time on my blue car. Boy, it's never looked so good! Such a deep dark blue shine. Pity I don't have a camera to show it off.

But yeah, wouldn't be surprised if I had a better reaction again with the Swissol stuff. Hear that's very good.
