Hey guys,

I just wanted to check .. what's the best product to use on a canvas soft top? I had a vinyl one before and used the 303 protectent which was great but I figure since the materials are both different, the canvas would need something different?

Thanks 8)

Our soft-tops are vinyl and quite a few people recommend 303 protectant so just keep using that! 8)

Your new top is NOT made of canvas!
If it was, it would shrink and tear in just a few years of exposure to the sun.
It is made from a synthetic fabric, and just a mild detergent in plenty of warm water will do the trick.
If it is very stained, you can use a soft nail brush as well to get the stains out.

Jeez Bevan, you didn't sleep last night?

The guy obviously now has what he believes to be a canvas soft top and realises that it is different from the vinyl soft top it replaced. And thus is seeking advice on what is appropriate with his new different soft top.

*blows airhorn in Bevan's ear!*

WAKE UP BEVAN! :P

Oops, I read it as shelleriffic used to have a car with a vinyl roof and she/he(?) was under the impression that the MX5 roof was canvas...

Just so you all know, I'm female :P

And yeah, sorry for any confusion, but my old roof is vinyl and I've just bought a new one that gets called canvas .. thanks Benny for the advice. I just wasn't sure what would be best to help protect it as much as possible from the sun, that's all. But being brand new, I'll keep it nice and clean each week.

You don't need to use this product as the cloth top has a repellent already applied to the material during production.
Just do as Benny said, wash it in warm water and MILD detergent if it is dirty. Otherwise just use plain water.
Never, ever go near it with any vinyl cleaning products.

I understand that - thank you. In looking at that site, there are 303 products specifically designed for the 'canvas' tops, not just the vinyl. But since it's brand new, I was only going to use warm water and if needed, a very light detergent, like you said to clean any dust and muck off. Perhaps as it gets a bit older I'll apply some 303 stuff to help repell water and such. :)

I installed a Robbins Cloth soft top last year and to date have only washed it with my normal car wash (Meguairs), no issues to report so far.
