Annoying squeak coming from the drivers side rear area

I have this annoying squeak coming from somewhere between the door and the back of the car on the drivers side. Does it when going over bumps with the roof up or down and the windows up or down. It's driving me nuts and getting worse!

I know this is very vague but has anyone got any ideas? I can't replicate it by shaking the car, or tapping on anything. I think it's coming from outside the cabin as with the roof up it's kind of muffled.

I have it too!!! Very bloody annoying. Have drĂven along a deserted dirt road with the door held slightly open and it's definately not the door but something, as PT said, between the door and the back of the car. I tightened the battery holder thingy but it's not that.
Anyone?

All the pivot points for the roof bows where they attach to the car. Some are visible when the roof is down and some are hidden behind trim in the seat belt towers. Also check boot lid spring wires.

I actually think it's coming from outside the cabin. But I'll check all the roof pivot points tonight, should I tighten them, or lube them?

Check they're tight and maybe a squirt of CRC or WD40 on all the pivot points. That stopped a lot of my car's squeaks.

don't reckon it's the roof JB.........the NC also has this problem.........only intermittently......at lower speeds over real rough stuff, it's on my little list for the next service........it's more a "squeaky rattle" in our case..........righthand side, between the door & the back of the car

Hmmm, well it worked for me and there isn't anything else there except the seatbelt retractors (NA/B) and wind blocker attachments (NB) AFAIK. Don't know about the NC.

Erwino wrote:i have a similiar problem, except ive located mine.

when ur sitting in the passenger seat, look directly to ur left, when the top is up, just beside the window is a little plastic L shape thingy that comes down from the door up to the roof, well the alan key bolt that holds it tight is loose. and when i drive the whole thing rattles and it shits me, except the alan key screw's head is rooted and it doesnt grip the key and i cant tighten it.

any body have solutions, im not game enough to fill the bolt head with solder then make a flat head screwdriver imprint then let it try. since its vertical im afriad ill drip solder everywhere.

anybody got any ideas?

I thought all the alan key bolts were all welded on the other end?!? Hence not being able to be loosened or tightened.

What PT said about the roof pivot points. I used some fishing line wrapped around the pivot pin to tighten up the joints in my car. It works great, though its a bit of a bitch to get the fishing line into the joint.

One thing to check is the boot latch. With the boot lid closed jiggle it up and down and see if it squeaks. If it does then the latch can be adjusted up and down by removing the boot lining to get at the adjustment bolts.

Another thing to check is the wiring inside the "tunnel" at th front of the boot beside the fuel tank. Make sure it's all secure and not rattling around.

It's Fixed!!!

In my case it was the metal bar which holds the battery in place.
I have put some folded fabric in between the metal bar and the battery and there is now a snug fit, and no more rattling!!!

Bugger, I'll check my battery holder, but it's down in the floor pan, not up in the boot like the NAs. So I don't think it's going to be that.

Guess I'll take it into Mazda.
