Replacing aerial pole

Help
I am trying to replace the aerial pole and can't figure out how to get
the base part off. I have already scratched the duco trying !!
I did a web search and came up empty.

See that chrome ring with those 2 holes? That is what holds the whole shebang tightly to the body.
You have to unscrew that chrome ring from the black plastic base. I found that using one of those rubber mats that you keep in the kitchen for undoing tight jars is the go. Once you unscrew the ring, the black plastic base just lifts out, exposing the busted aerial shaft.
IIRC, I think you can then look in the boot and the aerial pole just unscrews out of the motor unit.

Failing the rubber mat trick, steal a fork from the kitchen drawer and bend the inner prongs out of the way or break them off. Bend the two outer prongs so that they fit in the two holes in the chrome ring and then use a shifter on the fork to undo the chrome ring. Circlip pliers work the best though. If search on the US miata net you'll find instructions on removing/replacing the collapsing antenna element.
