Re: Patchy's Fawlty Towers risk management. Enter at own risk
So this weekends plan was to pick up engine no 3
move the sump of engine 3 onto engine 2
remove head, water-pump timing belt from engine 1 (still in car) onto engine 2
change frond & rear seal on engine 2
Engine 2 is a 2002 VVT with around 150K km
I will get the BP-4W head with big cams provided the head is not damaged. Otherwise it will keep the VVT head.
The VVT head will be used for the turbo in about 18 mths
So it was time to swap out the sumps from Engine 3 to Engine 2.
removing the sump was easy
When I removed the damaged sump from Engine 2 I was shocked. a couple things fell out.
These are of significant size. I mean I kn=ew I had a broken sump....but I wasn't expecting that.

Well, with 3 engines I'm sure you'll be able to piece something together that will run! And probably have enough left over for some kind of art installation

Too Right Lachy,
so that meant ....because I had turned the engine upside down....what if any bits fell into the crank case?
so I went deeper into it without actually unbolting the crank & conrods.
Looked & looked. Found nothing.
Turned it the right way up.
turned the cranks.
Looked more....
still nothing.
and then of course surfaces got cleaned to within an inch of their lives
all back together again.

I have a polished cam cover.
The VVT head is coming off & the BP4W with cams , valves & ports are going on this one . I just have to remove it from the other engine. I’ll get it done tomorrow

Looks like change of plans.
*engine 1 = BP-4W currently fitted to Feenix

*engine 2 = BP-Z3 currently being prepared to replace engine 1

*engine 3= Long block BP-Z3 will probably built for turbo . Currently sitting there with no head & shagged crankshaft but good block. Low Km

Took the head off engine 1. Got damage.
We Have what looks like aluminium material stuck in head. Unsure if it’s origin and or how it got there.

It also looks like there has been contact between valves & piston when the cam sprocket self exploded recently.

While the Head of engine 1 is deemed fixable. It’s not going to happen any time soon. Engine 2 will replace Engine 1 in its entirety. And I’ll figure out how to control VVT with my current setup.
I’m a little upset as I really wanted to enjoy the high compression & cams for a time before the turbo goes on.
It is what it is.
Not sure when I will replace engines just yet. Has to be done before feb 2020.

The eviction for the engines are next weekend. They need to be out of the house. Cause our landlord will crack the shits when she’s sees them here at Christmas. I have a place to store them over Christmas.
Feb is when rego is due. And I’m away until Jan.

After having a longer look it turns out that.
Valves in cylinder 2 of engine 1 got bent recently when the intake cam sprocket self destructed.
Eventually the bent valves broke some bits off the valve guides. That’s the material loged in the combustion chamber
So the order of the day will be . Are valve guides replaceable & cost involved . I’m up for at least 2 . No other valves have any leakage

Re: Patchy's Fawlty Towers risk management. Enter at own risk
Hey mate i got quoted $30 per guide to put my supplied Supertech bronze valve guides in the Stewart head........ but that's at a head specialist down my way.
i thought this was reasonable because the guides will need to be honed out to the correct tolerance with the stem and fitted to the head.
hope this helps.
love the polished flat top by the way, tossing up if i want mine polished or painted to match my rocker.
