If I had to buy new valves I'd be very tempted to go bigger for better flow. Do it!

Ok so what's better
Less lift?
Less compression?

yup change the valves... I'd keep the same compression but just machine the pistons down a bit though you'll have to pull down the block to do that. You'll have a nice outline of where the machine each piston at least! Are the 1.6 valves the same as the 1.8?

You can see where the valve was hitting the piston on all cylinders. No 2 valve head failed and fell off, bounced around a few times and ceased the motor (it was only idling when it broke). The timing was out by a tooth which happened during installation after timing had been done. There was no noise at idle, only on the track at revs.

The valve and piston were hitting above 4000 rpm but it reved to 7500 before some power loss was felt, which would have been a bent / jammed valve.

The head has been welded up, remachined, new valve seats, new exhaust valves with one intake. New pistons and bearings in the block. I'd expect to see a similar effect on your pistons, as no 1 in this photo... maybe not quite as bad as this as it was pushing some high revs.

This photo is better... the indent on the piston crown is less than 0.1mm so it was only just touching.

well this is supposed to be a ghetto build.
I think I'll be just contemplating for a bit.

I respect that you can draw the line. Keep it ghetto. Like greenmachine and madjak have said, pull the head, replace the valves and measure the clearance. At least then you'll know how thick a gasket you need.

Put the OEM cams back in. Whooping 7.9mm lift.

Looks like I have the piston hitting the ahead because I've only got about 0.3 mm clearance madjack says that's 0.13 thou

Head will come off tomorrow to check damage.

Sounds strange. I wonder if there's a dropped/stuck valve or broken valve spring there somewhere.

I guess we'll see. I should perhaps be a little less convicted about what it is.

When she's open . We'll see what damage is there.go from there.

On the tech chart of the cams it says the valve is open 2.33mm at TDC. Even if the cams are off by a few degrees . I can't see it being more than 8mm. It's kind of been playing on my mind after I thought it was the valves.

0ther scenarios which have been plaguing my mind is maybe I missed one of the washers between the spring & head is missing. But I would put that in the very unlikely basket. But since the head is coming off. I'll check anyway. Maybe do a few other things.
But it all depends. May have to give the head another skim if there is damage. I hope I don't need to throw it away.

Interesting.

Looks like the valves are hitting the side?

I was going to ask if the valves were fully retracted into the head because the piston hit looked like they have been stuck out 10mm or so.

So bent valves.

Looks like the exhausts have been hitting also.

The piston has also been hitting the head.

A lot of the valves are not seating correctly. But once cam is removed, they are tight in thier seat
I swapped the HLA,s on that cycilder and that has made the equal as far as the eye can tell. But they are not sealing.

I put blue tack down to check but it seems there is no interference once the timing is all correct.

Confused. :?

Could the valves been sticking down? Was it just cams and a deck or are there new guides as well?
