Making car mats
There are places that make custom ones. I saw them advertised in Unique Cars magazine some time ago. Google?
They are in Australia.

The heat coming off the metal floor in an MX-5 would be unbearable, so you have to have carpet.
If you want some REALLY swanky floor mats, you can do what I did for my Mercedes.
I went into a sheepskin place with one of the original mats and bought a couple of furry sheepskins that were the right size and just cut them to the desired size and shape. I cut out the holes for the mat holders as well and put them inthe car.
They are wonderful!
They are soft and very luxurious, and they don't weigh as much as carpet either (which will keep some of you happy).
Now, you're thinking that they will get dirty and they are hard to keep clean, but the opposite is true.
Because sheepskin has natural lanolin in it, it actually repels the dirt!
Just give them a good shake-out every now and again, and if required, a quick brush, and they come up like new.
Mrs Benny loves them.
Every time she gets in the Merc, she takes her shoes off and runs her toes through the luxurious mats and lets out a little sigh of heaven.
The skins cost me around $80 for the pair and it took me all of about 10 minutes to measure and cut them.
Cut them from the back of the skin and just peel away the loose fur on the edges.
If you just want carpet, all carpet stores have lots of off-cuts that they will virtually give away.
So if you can find some pieces in the right size and colour, go for it and get your gran to overlock the edges for you.

Imagine how much lighter and safer your car will be...
It will handle better because of its LW attributes, and its non slip so you can stuff up when your driving...
hmm luckily i work in the aircraft industry. and we throw out all our old carpets...might get some cut and stitched up
