Lightyear fastback owners thread!

I used black sikaflex adhesive to affix my windows (never used the double sided tape on mine), and they have held well, although recently showed slight lifting at the corners.


I'll likely need to go back and use some flush mount black bolts on the corners to hold them down like I did on the window of the OEM shape lightyear hardtop:


Regarding attaching the roof to the car, brackets and hinges were never a thing when I put my roof together, so I cannot comment on that, I just made my own. In my case, I mount the boot section with pins and a push button latch, no oem hinge or latch or anything of the sort.

Yes, sikaflex is the go-to glue. Some tiny neat black rivets/bolts/fasteners in the corners will prevent lifting.

Don’t use rivets, I did one and it dents the window. Just drill and use stainless steel bolts with nylon nuts that stay tight without having to tighten all the way which would compress the plastic window.

Same issue with the leading edge falling short but mine is a track car so it doesn’t bother me so much

how are people going with leaking?

my hard and soft top never leaked, rolled car out of garage on weekend while doing some much needed garage cleaning, it just sat in the rain for a few hows, jumped in later in the day to get it back inside and drivers seat is soaked.
i have no idea where its leaking from as the window seems to seal ok.

Thinking that I’m going to have to bolt my windows down, didn’t want to but it’s the only thing that I can see will stop them from lifting. Mine has sat in the garage since mounting it because neglect but I’m pretty sure the 5mm gap on the leading edge will certainly let in water. Can’t say any thing about the window seals but surely Clark rubber would have some thing.

sounds like a first rate bit of engineering... And no Clarks have a very limited range of extrusions but always worth a look.

Have heard someone in melbourne has purchased the lightyear roof business of him and will be getting the roofs made in china then sent here?
Anyone know anything about this?

i've booked mine in to be cut and extended.

took it to a local fibreglass guy who makes kits for race cars and he said its a pretty simple job. unfortunately simple doesnt equate to cheap.

this will fix the too short issue without resorting to bog.

if i can locate someone with a hardtop who is prepared to lend it to me im hoping to get proper side mounts made and bonded to it as well.
do away with the half assed bent bits of alloy and mount the roof in the same way as an original hardtop.

not sure how long it will take, but it will end costing me more than one of the fastbacks from greece to get something i can use on the street.

Hopefully it all works out well and I expect it will look great when fitted. In my opinion the Lightyear fastback (with the work you are doing) will look a lot better than the Greek fastback due to ts better shaped side window etc.
