Try using a Works Engineering quick release. It will bring the wheel closer to you and a few guys here have it.

Zabinskii, if I rake the seat so I reach the wheel properly then my vision is blocked by the bit above the windscreen. Have to duck to see traffic lights. Maybe your seats have already had foam taken out?

you cannot fit a pint and a half into a one pint bottle. Depending not just on height but on ones build an NA or NB may be totally unsuitable cars - its a bit like clothes that are one size too small- they never really feel quite right.

I also get this from being too tall for the car. For some atleast, you need to duck your head a bit so you can see the traffic lights etc. How bad is it, the headroom issue, causing back problems etc? Is it your daily driver? I think if you have bonded too much with your car that you cant bare the thought of selling it (like me) I think the only real option is to get a sparco sprint v bucket seat. Iv done the foam mod to my stock seat and while it did help it hasnt helped enough. I drove a mates NB with a sparco fitted, roof up, sit up straight and I still had a good 2 inches of headroom. While that doesnt sound like much its more then enough and alot more then I have now. The fact is the stock seat you kinda sit on it but with the sparco you sit down in it, so you gain quit a bit of headroom.

Sadly these cars arent really built for tall people but there is alot of tall people out there who drive them and who daily drive them. I guess it just comes down to the individual person and their requirements.

For me and for now atleast I cant part with my mx5, Iv bonded too much with it, its way too much fun and it makes me too happy when I drive it to sell it. Like Morlock has mentioned numerous times its probably not practical for a tall person to keep squeezing into a small car for a long period of time as this could cause problems down the track but again it just comes down to the individual person.

Cars are my life and my hobby, without them Id be nothing, I need something fun and enjoyable in my life. The mx5 is perfect for that.

Possible mods for tall drivers in a NA6?

Postby speed » Fri May 02, 2014 6:23 pm

Thank you Morlock and Speed freak for your input. Is really a 2nd car. Gave my Golf Gti to my wife which is our daily.
Also have 2x SA22 Rx7s, a 63 mini and a VH Valiant Charger. All of which I fit into more than just fine.
The mx is for fun and IMO very cheap for parts and gives a similar driving pleasure to my RX7s without the fuel usage :) and power :(
Guess you gotta burn fuel to make power :)

The Mini is a work in progress. Eventually to become a Cooper S replica.
So far I have the parts, basically a front cut out of a late model rover mini, so using an A+ series 1275 engine with the bigger disc brakes, twin SU's, LCB's etc.
Engine bay has been gutted & resprayed. New front sub-frame fitted with engine, gearbox, brakes, axels, wheels etc.

Interior and exterior need to be taken back to bare metal, prepped and sprayed before I can re-wire and assemble.

Some photo's below.

I'll try to refrain from putting any more non MX5 pics up :)
