Re: NA6 Carpet fitment
so the shitty passenger footwell fitment is fine with you? it's a generally low quality carpet!
obviously it was designed to be light weight, but they took it a bit too far and it would be nice to have some real carpet in there!

Re: NA6 Carpet fitment
Well, i had a chance over the weekend to take the door sills off and have a look.
Unfortunately, the carpet was still correctly stapled to the white clips - meaning it's very likely that the carpet has simply shrunk over the years. It would appear this is common amongst many members vehicles.

Re: NA6 Carpet fitment
I had problems with my carpet too, mainly in the footwell area. It would always come loose and pull out.
I'm now using carpet from a NB and it's much much better, later model NA carpets also have better fitment.

Re: NA6 Carpet fitment
Slightly off topic, but while we're having a carpet thread:
Do you need to remove the dash to change the cabin-carpet? I have 2 carpets (one in the car, one in the garage) and I want to swap them, but the carpet seems to go way under the dash (arching between the two foot-wells). My reading of the US forum suggested that you do need to take the dash out, but you can get around it by 'splitting' the carpet and just tucking it up under the dash between the foot-wells.
Is this your experience?

Basically yes, I've removed and installed carpets with the dash in and you do have to split it where it goes behind the heater unit. I would recommend removing the dash, makes it a lot easier and you don't have to cut anything.
Good write up here:

Says the man linking to a 30 page PDF on how to remove a dash

Thanks for the info, but I think cutting some carpet is more up my alley

No way, split the carpet, remove the clips, seats and the sill covers and put the new carpet in.

my carpet is great, but if someone's interested in new and better carpets it would be worth a go.
Speaking of moulded carpets, has anyone tried this company?

I need to replace my front carpet as the driver side is worn through to the metal underneath near drivers foot rest.
If no-one has tried this company, are there any other local Australian companies that do moulded carpet for NA's?

I've used Knox Auto Carpets for some restos of other cars that I've done and found their prices really good with a great fit and finish
With two laps to go then the action will begin, unless this is the action, which it is.

Re: NA6 Carpet fitment
Thread revival....
Did Knox carpets (or anyone else in Oz) end up manufacturing a moulded carpet kit for our NA's?
I've check the knox website (and other Australian moulded carpet websites) and not a MX5 listing to be seen. Ford Capri convertibles however seem to be well catered for
I did see a mention of Queensland moulded carpets (now known as No Bull Accessories) when doing a search, but nothing shows up on their model listings?

AFAIK they never did it for the MX5.
Although, somebody mentioned earlier in the thread (Jace) that they might be willing to make it if they had a template. Perhaps a call to them and an offer of your old carpet might be some help? (might also help other members too)

Ironic isn't it...the MX5 holds the Guiness world record for the most popular roadster, yet no moulded car carpet company here lists them

Re: NA6 Carpet fitment
The roof doesn't leak like the others so the carpets haven't rotted. But as the cars get older the carpets are wearing out so maybe one of the suppliers may become interested.

Friggin typical.....
Been chasing new carpets for my NA6 for ages, rang every known Australian moulded carpet company (including knox carpets) a few weeks ago with no luck. Oddly, every company I asked had no intention of manufacturing moulded MX5 carpets in the forseeable future as they didn't see a real market for them.
Imagine my surprise then when I came across this

A quick search of the Knox website then found this http://www.knoxautocarpets.com.au/mazda/mx5/mazda-mx5-na-1989-1997/
So there you go trendsetters. We now have an Australian supplier for MX5 moulded carpets!
Of course this all comes too bloody late for me as I sourced a good used set of NB carpets, but hope this helps others out.
