Re: Choosing a gear knob
I used to have a voodoo in my car for ages but after trying a skunk2 in a friends car, was pretty much an overnight purchase and sold the voodoo.
I guess choosing a gear knob is like asking which dog breed should I buy. Everyone has a personal preference and there is no definitive answer as everyone is different.
For me, I liked the weight of the skunk2 knob and the adjustible height locking collar. Seemed like the best of both worlds for me as I could sit it at the height I wanted but also kept that weighty feel. Plus it's almost the same shape as the stock shifter but heavier and a little more solid feeling (because it's metal).
But it's all subjective, the right one for you may be completely different for someone else. I reckon just buy whatever and if it works great! If not, just sell it to someone, pretty hard to devalue a shift knob lol.

Re: Choosing a gear knob
I just checked eBay and most there are noted to be for various Hondas.
Is the one for MX5 identical or is there a difference to better suit MX5?
Most listings seem to be from the US.

I have the Momo circle carbon, same shape as voodoo.
Metal gear knobs get really hot when parked under the sun IMO. They look good though especially ARC

- Made in the US
- Made for different thread patterns (Mazda, Nissan, Mitsubishi are the same)
- reason why you won't find one for Mazda is Skunk2 no longer makes the thread pattern.
There are now imitation and forgeries of the knob. The one in Nano's post is a forgery. So be careful if you do find one "brand new" as they even forge the box and stickers/seals.
Last I checked, an eBay seller/store called Project Monkey had the last of the genuine Skunk2 knobs suitable for Mazda's thread.

Lol sorry about the fake pic haha. I just grabbed one of Google images.
I didn't think I had a photo of mine on here but it turns out I do. This is what the real Skunk2 shift knobs look like.

Thanks for that advice re fakes.

Re: Choosing a gear knob
Bizi,
Just buy a skunk2 gear knob 10x1.5 for a Honda from JDM $99.00 free postage.
Drilled out the 1st half of the thread to 15mm and just ran a M10 x 1.25 tap down the remaining thread.
Fits like a beauty and is pretty close to original height. Needed a little drop of loctite 222 thread lock to secure in correct position. (you can use a little bit of nail polish. Works the same and you can get it off with a good twist.)
Happy to do the mod for you. No charge if you dont know anyone. Takes about 10mins on a small lathe.
Just post to me with a return express bag.
PM me for the address if you want to go ahead. I might even buy another one myself.
This is how it looked in my car.

Dude if you want one, put up a WTB thread on the forum! I'm SURE you'll get one haha. I scored one within 24 hours of putting the word out.

Re: Choosing a gear knob
I have been using a Voodoo magnum pearl knob in my car for years, they are a fantastic good quality gear knob.
If I had to get something else I would go with a Joyfast.
