Legal Roll Bar - Victoria Specific

Postby de Bounce » Thu Apr 01, 2010 9:07 pm

What I have gleaned from the 2010 CAMS Manual - Schedule J
APPLICATION
1. A safety cage is required as follows.
1.1. Races: all cars except:
1.1 (i). Unrestricted Road Registered, Closed Cars in Club or Multi-Club Level races;
1.3. State Level and above Speed Events: all cars except cars of the 5th Category (unless otherwise specified in the relevant Historic Technical Regulations), and cars which are road registered.

Therefore a road registered vehicle does not NEED a roll bar.

9. Non-complying Safety Cage
In cases where the type and/or status of the event does not require an automobile to be fitted with any form of safety cage, the use of structures which do not comply with these regulations is permitted unless the Chief Scrutineer believes the structure to be of unsafe construction.

This rule states type and/or status of the event not the application (vehicle)!

There are some variables.
These requirements may be varied by the supplementary regulations issued for the event (Rule 1.6).
The vehicles eligibility is dependant on the scrutineer on the day. (If you want to argue the rules - good luck)

My guess is that if anyone is looking for a Roll Bar and intend to do some Track Days, check with your Club Motorsport Captain for advice or buy a CAMS approved (type 2) Roll Bar.

Again, happy for anyone who knows the correct answers to jump in.
