yes...that about sums it up

though cheap is relative

found some s2000 leather seats in allegedly perfect condition for $1100...cheap? moot point but that seems on the money...i assume extra costs to fit them, but there is info on the US site that suggests that it isnt too hard to acheive

trying to find seats that suit my taste..i would like extra comfy brown /beige leather seats that fit both my arse and the car perfectly.....had imagined at this moment of research re possabilities out side the square that there might be a better range of options and price if i look outside mazda..or rx7

im not the first to have thought of doing this...see US site....and also the after market seats such as recaro/bride/cobra etc are outside the brand ...but they are expensive or inadequate

truth is that i can live with the seats as they are...but it is essentially my hobby so im interested to consider the options out there...

enjoy

What do u want bucket, recliner, comfort, street, track days etc.

these are the dimensions you should be looking at for seats.

flyin miata: Optimal Seat Dimensions 19.5 inches base width and 21 inches shoulder width.

well your not going to get much better without spending big bucks.

How about going the same route as MX5CHIC did?

ahh I know what you mean about the harness holes, that's why I've swayed away from them for the stock seatbelt.

Hey philz, was the base width the size of the seat to fit the rails, or the size of the width of the tunnel which houses the seat (I think it's gonna be too big!)

Look at seat width to fit the tunnel rather than rails.
From specs it looks like they MAY fit, dont quote me.

Even though the optimal specs are 19.5", I've seen seat which are 20.5" wide fit, and with wings wider than 21", so really the only way to tell, is to physically fit them into the car.

Maybe look at Mazdaspeed

(thanks to Dan for me stealing your pics)

Nice and comfy seats.

And to answer your questions about cooling I have no idea. Maybe use the aircon? lol
Personally I do no see the real use for it in an mx5.

edit: just saw what car you have, maybe look at ditching those leather seats if it's too hot.

Rupewrecht aka Dan can help.

He actually has quite a few in stock now @ Melb.

Scroll down to interior:

You will need mx5 seat "rails/brackets", which you can also source from him.

do note that the Mazdaspeed seat bases apparently sit slightly higher than stock.

ringo wrote:yea - i'm thinking of going a 2nd hand Recarro Sport seat... apparently these are the seats for the DCR Type II - which I know fit quite well...

these will also fit quite nicely and don't have any electical bits and pieces to make them heavy as (that being said - if they are going to get a re-trim i'll add heater/cool system)

... I remember I found a website which went through which recarro seat was in which car (kinda similar to this on the recarro website can anyone put me out of my misery?

Mmm, i didnt think the Type R seats fitted in MX5's??

Type R seats are just recaros - which means they won't fit or won't fit well
