Robbins tonneau covers - pics and comments wanted!

I'm considering getting myself one of the Robbins tonneau covers. Some photos here:



Does anyone here have one? What's it like? Is it worth it? Vinyl or "sunfast cloth"? More pics? Does the seat need to be in a specific position to fit into the socks? Can you put the passenger window up when the tonneau is on? (*gasp*)

I spoke to Wayne on Sunday at the car cruise who said he's got a vinyl one. If anyone has his email, could you PM it to me so I can go terrorise him and have a look?

Benny spot on about why they were invented. A mate of mine has an MGA and he carries the frame in the boot- putting it on is fun to watch..... The MX5 tonneau looks good though and does protect the interior from UV and dust.

Put the money towards a NB frame & roof retrofit. Its sooo much faster than all that zip, unzip, zipedy doo da, dont scratch the plastic caper.

I can imagine putting that big ass tonneau thing on would be like erecting a circus tent - I find it enough of a pain that I hardy put the boot over the roof when the top is down.

I initially thought that mohair was a largely seasonal fabric which is collected in late Movember in the same way as sheering sheep. In that sense it's quite unlike acrylic, which requires the needless slaughter of hundreds of small defenseless crylics, all in the name of sweaty unbreathable fashion.

Apparently I was wrong.

As it turns out, it's actually a fabric made from the hair of Angora goats:

I looked into getting one about 18 months ago. just to protect the interior a bit more when parked in the sun with the roof down.
you can get a custom made one for around the $800 mark. that was quoted by a guy on the central coast. not sure what fabric but since he normally deals with restoring old classic cars (i was drooling over some as i walked round the garage) it would probably be vinyl for 'period' styling.
