I think you can \"borrow\" a cam cover on an exchange basis...

But I have only ever seen this on NA

A good weekend should do it. All depends on how much of a perfectionist you are and how shiny you want it to be. It also helps a great deal at having the right tools.

and if you want to VHT crinkle coat it, it will take about 30-60 minutes to pull the cover off, degrease it, dry it, paint it, heat/bake it, refit it.
I think Ben and I did it to mine one night...and I used my heat/plastic welding gun to "wrinkle" the paint.
I'll post pics when I find them...

Polishing, on the other hand, looks fantastic but requires a lot of upkeep.
The alloy (even if highly burnished) will oxidise (ie. go dull) relatively quickly.
And water marks are a right royal PIA to remove.
I have polished wheels, motorbike frames/swingarms before and the best stuff to use
is the professional compounds ie. the various grades of tripoli and rouge.
And of course, the correct mops ie. stiched sisal, calico et al.

I think you can buy the Josco metal polishing kits from Bunnings, which has the basics and is enough to do the cam cover.
And of course the various grades of wet'n'dry needed to sand the whole lot flat and smooth.

This is a youtube tutorial to polishing CLICKY HERE
Good luck

Thanks Hammer and Okibi- the covers really do look like a piece of jewellery- well done.

The photo was actually one I did for someone else, it turned out better than mine
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Not on mine. From time to time, I just wipe it down (no scubbing) with an old rag and some Autosol. Since initially polishing it, I haven't really done much to it (apart from said wipe down) and it's still shiny.

Okibi's finish product looks like a mirror though. So not sure if he did anything else apart from simply polishing it.
