i think the fewer ppl who know about getting into the boot the better. the mx5 boot is the only safe haven in the car.
invest in a electronic boot release and hide the button somewhere, not only does it make opening the boot piss easy but you can open it in times like these.
how do i break into my boot to retrieve the key from there??

I know this has been solved, but for future reference there is no need to drill/damage the car.
Simply take out one of the front door locks (assuming there the same key) take them down to a local locksmith and get them to cut you a key to fit the lock. It will cost around $7 if they can read the code or around $20 if they cant, and thats for two keys.
I found this out when i droped my keys of a boat.

...bit hard to do if you've already locked yourself out of the car, isn't it?
