Re: Patchy's Fawlty Towers risk management. Enter at own risk
so after a few weeks of chasing gremlins , oil leaks, & water leaks shes back running. I got one of those aftermarket cam cover seals. Don't know why I bothered seriously. found a OEM seal amongst my spare sh*t. Sealed immediately. nothing required.
At 1200 Rpm shes very lumpy at idle . essentially thats where I would like her..... but she just want to idle at 1600 rpm naturaly at the moment. My idle valve works intermittently. no idea why ...
She ducking hammers .....she starts going all quiet & smooth as she comes up the rev range .....then you start hearing the scavenging work from the overlap through the mania intake .....she starts to howl. its awesome and she just goes. the revving is beautiful.
its quite intense.smooth as well. 3rd gear is a lot of fun. Sure shes no 400hp monster.....but this is intense & dramatic in a different way.
im really tickled pink right now.
Currently I'm using the VVT head COP's which is not ideal because they are not bolted down & i don't have an rpm gauge working , so over the next few days. I'll have to wire up the Toyota cops again . No idea why that original wiring was cut to pieces. would have been great to just swap them over.
the ultimate for me would be to do this to the VVT head..... bigger valves similar spec cams..... and shaved to an inch of its life.....
as far as power goes. ive really got no idea

Hopefully by winter 2022 most of this covid crap will finally settle to a point where we can all get back to getting some runs tee’d up without any hang ups (fingers crossed).

Looks like I may be following you into the dark side Stan...
My head gasket has started letting a little drip drip of coolant into cylinder #2.
Runs on 3 cylinders for the first 20 seconds in the morning, then drives fine.
Not bad for a 30 year old car.....that's been pampered and over serviced all it's life.
Given the cost of a getting the head gasket done with associated head reco, along with the now due timing belt/water pump combo, I've asked Mania to source a 1.8.
Would love to drop a VVT in or even a BP4W, but might need an ECU for that.
Actually do you need an ECU like a MS or Haltech for the BP4W or just the VVT?
I know the VVT doesn't like the NA6 ECU due to coil pack and VVT issues.
