Hood Clips

Postby Exbiker » Wed Mar 11, 2020 12:21 pm

I have a 1999 NBA, newly acquired (& I'm loving it!)

The handbook says that to undo the windscreen clips before lowering the hood, you should first push the release button to enable the clip to undo.

On my car, this release button does nothing - it barely touches the moving part of the main clip, & does nothing to help prevent accidentally opening the clip (same both sides). There is very little overcentre locking effect, either, so that I can open the clips with very light pressure from one finger.

I'm a bit concerned that the clips may not hold with a bit of spirited driving (on a private circuit, obviously :D ).

Anyone else have this issue? I guess the secondary hook part should stop the hood blowing back, but I'd feel more secure with a better locking mechanism.

Thanks in advance

Bruce

Common problem with the locking mechanism wearing. There's a fix here : https://www.miata.net/garage/top_latch/index.html

Brilliant! Thanks Kev - that's exactly what I was looking for.
