I'm getting my 89 NA6 resprayed and doing some of the prep work myself.
I need to remove the black plastic trim running between the side windows and the doors (circled in yellow) and at the base of the soft top to body (circled in green).
Given that it's a 30 year old vehicle now, I thought it would be best to ask for guidance before snapping/breaking old brittle plastic. Any advise on how best to remove both of these?

To remove the one around the base of the soft top, you're going to have to remove the soft top. I think the window moulding should be car simpler, but I'm not experienced on that one, however I know a bunch of people replaced theirs not too long ago after Mania organised a group by on new rubber. So surely someone is familiar with the process.

I've done it a couple of times successfully. Just take your time.

The window trim is held on with little white clips, you get a thin blade/card between it and the paint, lift the trim with your hands and use the blade/card to push on each clips to pop it off. That large moulding can only be removed by taking the soft top out, it's held on with a bunch of nuts and some sticky stuff.

Buy yourself a set of trim removal tools, will make the job of removing the window trims a lot easier.
