tl;dr

Buy a damaged bonnet. Then either cut the bracing out, and use that as your template; or mark the bonnet where the bracing sits, cut the bracing out, and then cut out the area of the bonnet underneath (above) the bracing, and using that as the template mark your 'good' bonnet.

May have nutted it out...
Mark vents on top of bonnet. Take an overhead picture.
Tranpose that image over an overhead shot of the underside of bonnet. Cut bracing with a margin.
Transpose image on underside again to get accurate location on actual skin of bonnet.
