Happy to post the method to adjust the damper base length and the ride height via the spring perch. It is not hard to do, 4 car stands and a 21mm spanner as well as the normal tools.
This will remove one of the variables as well as improve the handling of your car.

Here is a link http://mx5cartalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=790040#p790040
There are 2 camps:
Camp A - set damper length and adjust height via spring perch
Camp B - set preload and adjust height via damper length
Camp A - maintains full damper travel but takes longer to do.
Camp B - quick and simple method however you could end up limiting damper travel
The forum has discussed the best method numerous times and there was no clear winner. It will depend on your final use, if a daily then Camp B however if pushing the car's suspension to the limit then Camp A will give you the best result.
