I wouldn't hesitate to do a full spray in black vinyl dye. once masked up it would be a quick and easy job

Maybe worth considering at a later date. Just bought a mortgage, I mean house, so discretionary car expenses may need to wait....

Or more to the point, might get the dents and scratches attended to first

You may have to find a method of neutralising the problem before considering further treatment, lest all of your efforts go to waste.
