I have searched and searched for a good write-up on how it could be done and haven't found much. I thought I would find something on an American page since they would encounter the same problems for their drivers side - still couldnt find much.

I have renewed hope though. After doing a bit of ringing and running around I have found a shop that is going to cut off the mounting locations for one rail (the left rail) and weld on new steel ones with the bolt holes in the correct location so that it can bolt down to the stock bolt holes in the floor plan.

Unless they are going to weld a section to rejoin the ridge as one piece again, I would steer clear because that ridge constitutes a fairly important part of the chassis.
I would highly recommend the seat be modified and not touch the car because eventually you'll want to revert everything back to stock.... and then.....

There was a person selling an adaptor a few weeks ago on here. Find the thread in hopes that it will give you a solution.

Yeah i agree steampunk, if i have to start cutting the floor plan up the stock seat will stay.
But this shop has a plan to mod the rails to pass mod plating

My new 6pt harness has arrived and I have been having a look to see how best to mount it / use it.

I bought one of these
Image

Having never tried a 6pt harness I did not realise just how dangerous it feels around my 'jewels'. The 5th and 6th points of the harness mount to the same buckle and do not separate enough to get my package in between them. Even if i did manage to get my bits in between them in the event of a minor accident i reckon I would nearly de-nutted as the belts would be a bit like a guillotine. Alternatively I could get my package to one side and hope for the best.

So, I have been looking for other methods of mounting and using crutch straps and came across the idea of sitting on them and mounting them to the same spots as the lap belts. This seems to be a hotly contested idea on different forums. After some research I can see that some manufacturers allow this and some dont. I emailed the manufacturer of my belt and they told me to ask CAMS. So I have emailed 2 departments of CAMs and am waiting to hear back.

Here is a diagram of what I mean
Image

Additionally, I have downloaded the schedule 1 of CAMs and I can see that they allow this method in '1st category or similar cars' - Being open wheel type I believe?

Here is a link to that document http://docs.cams.com.au/Manual/GeneralR ... 2016-1.pdf

I may be opening up a can of worms here, but how to people run their crutch straps without fear of becoming a eunuch?

I have been living with the same person for over 2 decades, becoming a eunuch is the least of my fears.

I'm not how until next weekend so can't take any photos as I use the exact same harness.

From memory the lower parts of the harness attach to the same points. However these are dedicated attachment points and are not shared with the OEM seat belt.

CAMS Schedule I can help. Looking at Drawing I-2 my install would fail on the crutch strap. The drawing suggests a +-20° angle mine would be almost 80°.

Drawing I-3 allows for crutch strap or straps to share a common mount with a lap belt or belts.

Drawing I-4 is what was used in my car to mount the dedicated harness clip in points.

To date I have not been picked up by scrutineering for having a harness mount that does not comply.

Haha fair enough.
I think ill sit on the crutch straps for the time being - if formula cars do that surely its not that crazy of an idea. They will still pull the lap belts down as designed. It will save me cutting holes in my seat and making new mounting points under the seat as well.

you can buy lower strap separately that have the belts spread farther apart.
Have a look at the Willans range for example.

Ah ok, so different branded straps will clip into the buckle? Are the buckles semi universal?

Willans look to be about $80

TRS seems to be about $50

They are both obviously much better design than what I have got.

Interesting thread. Hope the OP doesnt mind me sharing my intention and query with regards to safety.
I fitted a Sparco Sprint V in my NA6 and just positioned the stalk through the hole in the side. I didn't have to remove and plastic parts but it does have a tendency to jab me in the rear whenever I get in the car.
Always planned on mounting a webbed belt in the stock NA6 hole but through the side hole in the sparco. Probably just enough that the entire buckle is on the 'inside' of the seat.
My reasoning for this was easier access to the buckle without having to fish for it in the dark.
Now I know I could look for something appropriate from seatsafe but am uncertain of any negative safety issues.
Would this be appropriate?

You could always take off the plastic sleeve from the original stalk? It just takes a good tug.

My original na8 belts dont clip into the seatsafe buckles.

I bought the new seatsafe buckles because i had already replaced my belts with belts from seatsafe.

Thanks Riley. Are you saying that there is webbing under the plastic sleeve?

Correct.

the sleeve is simply trim for both aesthetics, and to hold the clasp up in the regular application.

Remove the plastic and there's regular old webbing under there. (maybe also a thin steel support? I can't remember if that was on the NA6 stalk or the Ford capri one though? i had one of each handy when I was doing stuff to my NB)
