Seats - Cobra Monaco Pro vs. Sparco Srpint V

Postby hot rod » Thu Apr 23, 2009 6:29 pm

I was wondering if anyone might have an opinion as to which one of these seats is better value?

Is the Cobra a bolt in job like the Sparco?

Are there any others I should be looking at in this price range? (under $500)

Basically I can't fit in the car with a helemt on, I'm 6 foot tall and like to sit as upright as a I can.

Cobra Monaco seat angle is different to Sprint - you will have less fore-aft movement with the Monaco, and the Monaco is harder to adapt to the MX5 rails. Sprints seem a better option, and I suspect they are better built.

I'm 6 ft and find the Sparco sprint V on the original MX5 rails sits too high for me. No experience with the Cobra. I run a cheap OBX seat and find it really good position wise, quality is a bit lacking.

I have been in the Sparco Sprint V, and found it pretty comfortable. Same as Fattima said, the seat height is an issue for me also being 6ft.

Im trying to track down a set of Cobra Roadster 7 Seats for my car, they should sit pretty low and suit the MX5 quite well.

Like this but in black...

Here are some in an MX5.

Thats for the tips guys, probably would prefer something with a a bit more hip support.

Fattima - Did you try bolting the Sparco seat directly to the floor? Is that possible?

We run these Autotecnica ones -

http://www.autotecnica.com.au/seats.html

We use the A999 and A1098's in the NC's (also used them in NA/NB)

They are a great budget priced seat and come with the side plates which we cut down to use with the factory runners. In the NC we have fit big Nick, Steven Head and others well over 6ft in the cars. The A1098 has additional padding which can be removed for track days if you want additional height.

Well worth considering and about half the cost of the "name" brands.

They SEATS are also ADR approved.

Looking at these, they appear to have no inbuilt support for the rear squab. I believe they are designed to use the rear bulkhead for back support...

No I didn't as I still wanted an adjustable seat. There are raised sections where the original seats runners mount to the floor they may get in the way when mounting directly to the floor.

Thanks for that info, very helpful.

Is there anywhere I can look at the A999 in person, who stock these?

Cheers

I've seen Autotechnica seats at Repco and Autobarn stores... but I haven't seen these particular ones, they all seemed to be the reclining jobbies.

The Autotecnica importers are in Thomastown in Melbournes northern suburbs (48 Northgate Drive). Good guys up to deal with and they will let you check out what they have. You can't buy directly from them but they organised for me to purchase some stuff from an auto trimmers a few doors up from their offices.

If someone in Syd wants a A999, I've got one for sale Here (also have a Sprint V)
shameless plug

while we are here though, mx5racing would you be able to put up a quick guide on installing the A999 in the NA/NB (would say NC too but I don't know if many want to do without the airbags)

Bit of a thread bump, but I purchased the A999 (autotecnica seat) and it sits higher then stock with the universal rail and factory sliders!

How did you get it to fit in a NA mx5? Was there a drop in height?
