Guard Rolling, Who, Where in Sydney

Postby Luke » Wed Sep 03, 2014 6:41 pm

Hi Guys

I am in the market to get my rear Guard Lips Rolled.
I would like some tried and tested options of who to use.

The internet seems to be pointing to either Sydney Guard Rolling or PhillB Enterprises.
I would much Like to here some MX-5 experience for NB's.

I just got myself a set of Buddly Club 15x8's +32, with 225/45/15 Hankook Ventus RS3's that were practically in new condition even though the owner got them 11 months ago.
These just clear the rear guards by about 2mm when I load up one of the rears on a ramp. I can't bottom the suspension out this way, but had no rubbing when I went for a test spin aroudn the block and over some speed bumps..
I have no issues with the front as I have ISC racing offset bushes in the upper wishbones. I have at least 10mm of clearance if not more.

In the future 225/50/15 R-Specs will be going on so they will rub in the rear.

PhillB (now Fitment solutions) did my guards as well as a few other NC mates.

he does a great job. Might be a bit hard for him to do the job as he now lives in QLD

but he might still travel down here and do some rolling
MY07 NC, Mazdaspeed Body, Ohlins, Full GWR Exhaust, 17x9 RPF1's, 4.1FGR and lots lots more

Or buy a tool and do it yourself.

I did. Tool cost $150 on eBay and sold after use for $125. Did a perfect job but took a while. I was careful and used a heat gun on the paint to prevent cracking.

What Zossy1 said.
I did one better though.....meanmx bought a guard roller and I just borrowed it.
Make sure your guards/lips are clean and clear of debris.
Using a magnet, make sure that you have no body filler around the lip area, as this WILL crack.
Work slowly, don't rush, and use the heat gun.
I used the heat gun to reform the inner plastic guard for more clearance.
meanmx just removed his, but his car is lower than mine with wider rims. But that is moot, as it is never dríven, because it's been on axle stands for the last 6 months.

3 months and just about to come down as well thank you. Guard rollers are cheap as on ebay and I don't think you can get one that is no good.
