Soft top latch - wont stay closed SOLUTION

Postby dave2221 » Thu Feb 27, 2014 3:31 pm

so, my soft top latches (the drivers side in particular) have been wearing down for a while now.

The results int he little button at the top of this image being useless.

Image

Its a result of the pins on the hinge mechanism, getting slightly bent.

I managed to solve this in about 10 mins last night.

Basically, i drilled & tapped a hole where the thumb button grabs

Stuck a grub screw in, adjusted it to the desired level, Lock-tite and boom

FIXED.

Will post pics if anyone is interested.

Yep I did this to mine about three weeks ago.
Very secure lock now.
I did originally try the other trick of filing down the stop points on the thumb button to make it come out further to lock but it still didn't lock enough for my liking.
Unfortunately now the button sits out further than it should but oh well

I might consider putting a screw through the passenger side now too as it doesn't have the solid click lock sound the drivers side now has
