Bride VIOS III

Hi there, I have been searching high and low for a seat combo that works for me. (couple of other posts already, thanks to those who let me try theirs out).

Sadly the Sparco Sprint V just arent comfortable for my swimmers shoulders, 52cm is tool small.

I am looking at getting genuine Bride Vios iii with the LF type bride rails.
Being 6'1 tall I need to sit low, and the LF promises this, whilst retaining Side function. Also needed for other drivers. I know from sitting in other seats that 56cm shoulder fits in the car and is just big enough for me. I just now need to work out if my waist fits in the seat.

Does anyone in Melbourne have vios iii seats installed?
If so I would love the chance to sit in them for a moment to check fit.

Might be worth considering if your going to want the seat change Engineered and if your relevant state authority is going to want to see Adr compliance.

If so, do brides come with Adr certs?

I have a VIOS III but I'm in Newcastle, your welcome to try it if you are ever up this way.
It is by far the most comfortable seat i have ever sat in. I'm a 33 inch waist and its comfy but snug.
A 34 would be okay, a 36 would probably be pushing it.

I couldn't get comfortable in the Sprint V either, especially the way the frame seems to dig into your ribs in corners.

There is no way that Bride seats can be ADR'd that I am aware of.

The ADR situation is a problem. The car is not a daily driver, however I'd rather not cop a fine and canary.

I am also considering the VELO GPT-1, as apparently that fits and retains ADR certification. However, I am not sure about how to mount it in such a way that I can retain slide function whilst still lowering the seat over the stock height.

I was talking to David Brown (of Brown Davis who make the CAMS certified roll bars) and he seemed to think that an engineers certificate would be achievable - however likely to cost about $1K. I was reading the Vicroads regulations and (not that I am an engineer) it didn't seem unachievable. Apparently the engineers certificate replaces the ADR from a liability signoff point of view.

From a safety point of view the stock seat headrest is too low for my torso height, and I know I'd rather avoid a whiplash injury.

Bride/reactor sliding rails should mount up to most fixed side mount/fixed backs I think. There's some sort of standard

I have done some more investigation. Found detailed measurements and pictures on the Bride rails on their Japanese website.

The Bride LF type rail is too narrow for a Velo GPT-1 - given that the bride side mounts are 395mm width apart and the Velo needs 405mm. I am thinking that I can source alternative steel plates (or have someone fabricate some) and attach to the Bride LF rail to widen it out to the 405mm that is required to side mount the Velo GPT-1 seats nice and low. Yet still on rails.

The advantage of the Bride rail is that they make a version specifically for the NA MX5 - both left and right hand sides.

The advantage of the LF rail is that there is no rear bar across the rails, which may allow for some more dropping and recline of the seat.

ADR cert means ONLY that it CAN be engineered not that its legal by default.

But if it's Adr Engineering will be either harder or impossible.

Guvnor, have you had a look at the Garage Star adjustable rails? The are supposed to fit just about any seat and work on left and right.

I got a set second hand with the plan of getting a gpt 1 but missed out on the gpt1 I had lined up.

I have seen the garage star rails. They look good, but the lack of an easy bar for my wife to adjust the slider on the occasions she drives it would be a problem.

I think I will get the Bride LF rails and then work out how to adapt Velo's side mounts to account for the 10mm difference in width.

They have a plate with scoops in it that allows for sliding adjustment. I will try to remember to take a photo tonight.

To those interested, I got a reply from an email I posted to Bride's Japanese website regarding the hip width dimensions of their Bride VIOS III seat. The answer was, 'about 355mm'. I have uploaded a manually updated image from their catalogue which I used for framing the enquiry.
