Acrylic paint on intercooler pipes

Postby trader » Fri May 24, 2013 6:07 pm

My inter ooler pipe from supercharger has marks on it and I want to clean it before reassembly. It is powder coated . I intend to prime it and then acrylic spray can. Has anyone tried this or can comment on whether the heat will be too great for acrylic. I could just try it but would rather be confident and not have to pull it apart again. I know, I should just get it powder coated again but like having my own touch.

Depending on colour, why not use high temp paint?

If it is a high heat location and you do not use a high heat paint it will fail.

Assuming your painted surface isn't almost rubbing against a 900 degree C exhaust manifold.

Using a hi temp resistant primer base you can then paint any colour colour acrylic of your choice over the top. you *might* get discolouration if the colour is not dark, but the heat resistant primer will keep the paint bond to the primer (and pipe) ok.
