MX5 SP Gear Knob

Postby Ozminator » Mon Apr 01, 2013 8:17 pm

Hi Everyone,

I have just purchased a Silver SP & I must say it's the most incredibly powerful MX5 I have ever dríven. I cannot understand why they didn't sell a 1000 of these!!

Can I ask any SP owners out their to post a close up picture of their factory original silver gear knob?

As the previous owner changed it to a small round silver ball - and he could not find the original one to give to me.

So I am keen to get a close look at an original to find a match...I have attached a pic of one on EBAY for $50 but not sure how close this is to the original?

thanks,
MAZMX5SP

Here is the original one but its pretty bad.

Plenty of threads on gear knobs and the round Voodoo one seems popular. I have a nardi leather which matches the steering wheel

Where did you get you SP from? Was it the one advertised on gumtree for 16k. If it was thats a bargain……. Don't forget to add your name to the SP Owners List.

Hi Richard,

Thanks for those links - yes the original one doesn't look that flash at all!

But the leather one looks good.

Yes I snapped up that silver one on Gumtree - drove it back to Melbourne on Good Friday!

Very impressed with it - and it's in excellent condition too!

thanks,
John

I have used a variety of gear knobs in my SP including a custom Voodoo from Knobmeister, and returned to the original - it is the best I have used (weight/comfort wise) and they look much better IRL than in the MX5 Parts photo. If you spend some time with a metal polishing wheel they can look sensational.

Beware of wearing rings when driving though, they are aluminium and scratch easily.

Here is my original Knob. I machined 2 grooves in it and put some o-rings in it.
