What is this broken wire in my soft top NB Series 2

Today I was poking around trying to find a rattle in the roof. I didn't find the rattle but I noticed on each side towards the rear a small spring with a thin wire attached to it leading into the soft top. Does anyone know what this is?

Nope, smaller spring, thinner and flexible wire about 30 cms before the break. Looks like it should go all the way around as similar wire on driver's side is loose

Ok I've identified it as the tension cable - but how do I replace it?

Thanks for all your help. I've ordered the part from the UK at half the price (including postage) compared to MX5 Mania and downloaded the instructions. Will need to put aside a few hours to install the cable.
